This self-reflection tool for afterschool staff has staff consider their current program’s social and emotional competencies, including self-awareness, self-management/emotion regulation, social awareness, relationship/social skills, and responsible decision-making. This tool will help staff use their own backgrounds and abilities to best support in your program.

This self-reflection tool is divided up into two reflective sections. First, the tool looks at the current social practices, in terms of interactions between youth and staff. Then, the tool examines in the current program implementation practices, in terms of how the content is delivered in the afterschool setting and how this can led to skill development for youth. Finally, staff consider their own social and emotional competencies and reflect on these findings to improve their program.
